Licensed gas fitter connecting a gas appliance in Wilton NSW

What Gas Work Requires a Licence

Gas is safe when it’s handled properly, and dangerous when it isn’t. In NSW, all gas fitting work, from a new cooktop connection to a full meter upgrade, must be carried out by a licensed gas fitter. That means someone who holds the correct trade licence and is authorised to work on natural gas and LPG installations.

Licensed work isn’t just about the install itself. Every job finishes with pressure testing and a compliance certificate, which records what was done, who did it and that the installation meets the relevant standards. If you ever sell your home or make an insurance claim, that paperwork matters. Unlicensed work can void your insurance, fail a building inspection and put your household at genuine risk.

Our Gas Services

We handle the full range of residential gas work across Wilton and the surrounding suburbs, big job or small:

  • Gas appliance installation, heaters, cooktops, ovens and outdoor units
  • Cooktop and oven connections, including disconnect and reconnection during renovations
  • Gas hot water system installation, replacement and servicing
  • BBQ and outdoor kitchen connections, with a leak check on the line
  • Leak detection and pressure testing, including fault finding on existing pipework
  • New-home gas connections and rough-in for builders and owner-builders

Every job is tested before we leave, and you receive a compliance certificate for the work carried out. If something isn’t right, we tell you honestly and give you a quote before we start.

Gas Leak Emergency

If you can smell gas, treat it as urgent, don’t wait to see whether it clears. Follow these steps:

  1. Turn the gas off at the meter if it’s safe to reach.
  2. Open doors and windows to ventilate the area.
  3. Don’t touch light switches, power points, doorbells or any electrical appliance, and don’t use flames, lighters or cigarettes.
  4. Leave the building and keep others away.
  5. Call 000 if anyone is in danger or you suspect a fire. For a leak at the meter or gas bottle, call your gas network operator or LPG supplier from a safe distance.

Once on site we isolate the line, locate the source with a leak detector and pressure test, then repair or replace the affected section and re-test before restoring supply.

New Home Gas Connections

Building in Wilton or one of the newer estates nearby? We work with homeowners and builders on new gas connections from the meter through to the final appliance fit-out. That includes running pipework during construction, coordinating with your builder’s schedule, and returning at handover to connect and commission each appliance.

If you’re also organising other trades, our new home plumbing team can cover the wet areas at the same time, so the whole fit-out is handled by one licensed crew and documented with the certificates your certifier will ask for.
